Dr Siobhan Loughnan, Senior Research Fellow at the Mater Research Institute–University of Queensland, is working to transform care for families who experience the devastating loss of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Each year, thousands of families face this heartbreak, yet support across Australia remains fragmented and difficult to access.
Dr Loughnan has developed Living with Loss, an online grief support program, shaped national clinical guidelines and education programs, and launched a national network to better connect services. Guided by the voices of bereaved families, her work combines scientific evidence with lived experience to ensure families receive the right care at the right time.
By embedding compassion and consistency into care, Dr Loughnan’s research is making a profound difference to families while positioning Australia as a global leader in pregnancy and baby loss support.
