Dr Tatiane Yanes

Dr Tatiane Yanes, Senior Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, is a genetic counsellor and researcher dedicated to making genomic testing more accessible, supportive, and impactful for individuals and families. Genomic testing has the potential to detect conditions earlier, guide treatments, and improve health outcomes, but many people face barriers in accessing and understanding these technologies.

Dr Yanes’ research uses implementation and social science approaches to bridge the gap between genomic discoveries and their use in real-world healthcare. She designs and tests new models of care to embed genomic testing into everyday clinical practice, explores the ethical and social issues it raises, and develops education programs for healthcare professionals.

Through co-design with families, she creates tools and resources that make genomic testing clearer, more compassionate, and tailored to people’s needs – empowering patients to make informed health decisions and ensuring genomic medicine delivers on its promise.
