Dr Amy Huchison

Dr Hutchison’s research mission seeks to forge new nutrition strategies to improve health outcomes and prevent chronic disease. Her research explores chrono-nutrition – the interaction of food with the natural 24-hour rhythms in the body. Her research to date has helped to untangle the physiological mechanisms underlying the observed benefits of intermittent fasting and time-restricted eating, and to test these eating patterns in real-world settings. Dr Hutchison’s current work is exploring how continuous glucose monitoring technology, alongside advice on what and when to eat can improve health for people living with type 2 diabetes. She is also exploring how eating patterns, circadian rhythms and blood glucose control change throughout pregnancy, to better understand how meal timing might be useful in managing gestational diabetes.
