Dr Myles Murphy

Dr Myles Murphy, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University, is helping millions of Australians recover from musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain. More than seven million people in Australia live with pain following injuries such as Achilles tendon damage, and these conditions are among the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide.

Dr Murphy’s research focuses on improving the assessment, management, and prevention of lower body musculoskeletal pain and injury. His internationally recognised work combines neuroscience, rehabilitation, and biomechanics to improve recovery and quality of life for people with tendon and muscle injuries. He led the creation of the Tendinopathy Severity Assessment–Achilles, a globally adopted tool now used in over 50 countries to measure tendon pain and recovery.

His research also explores how the brain adapts after injury—often limiting muscle strength—and how innovative techniques such as non-invasive brain stimulation can accelerate rehabilitation. Through collaborations with the WA Police Force, elite sports organisations, and health industry partners, Dr Murphy’s work bridges science and practice to reduce injury, restore function, and enhance performance.
