Policy 101
This Tall Conversation will share what I have learnt from my 20 years of experience in political advocacy (state and federal) in the scientific landscape. This will be an informal presentation where I share some basics of the political machinery, how to engage and cultivate productive relationships with politicians, how to maximise your voice being heard and how to increase your ability to influence decision-making whilst simultaneously helping them achieve their legacy. To do this, I will share with you what makes them tick!

Ten Curious Questions: Behind the Scenes of a TEDx Talk
Ever wondered what goes into crafting a TEDx talk? Let's pull back the curtain together. In our upcoming chat, we'll explore questions like:
-
- How do you discover that one idea worth sharing?
- What's the journey from a simple thought to standing on that red dot?
- Is memorising every word a must, or is there room for spontaneity?
We'll also see how distilling complex ideas for TEDx mirrors the Young Tall Poppy experience. Whether you're dreaming of giving a TEDx talk or just curious about the process, join us for a friendly and insightful conversation.

Translating Research to Impact
Research impact is becoming more important each year and is being asked for in grants, promotion processes, and by the public because the general consensus is that what scientists do should matter outside of academia. In this crash course, we'll go over the basics of approaching research translation, focusing on defining your user, customer, and beneficiary. This will aid in reframing your research for grants and improve discussions with industry partners and tech transfer offices.
Dr. JJ Richardson is a Future Fellow at RMIT with multiple spin-outs and products on the market. When he's not researching how nanomaterials can be used to improve agriculture, he is working on innovation frameworks and teaching Entrepreneurship for Researchers.
