Dr Ali Bajwa

Dr Ali Bajwa, Senior Lecturer in Weed Science and Agronomy at La Trobe University, is tackling the costly and persistent problem of weeds and invasive plants. These unwanted species damage agriculture, ecosystems, and communities—costing the Australian economy more than $5 billion each year.

Dr Bajwa’s research focuses on understanding weed ecology under changing climates and developing innovative, sustainable management strategies that are effective across landscapes. He collaborates closely with farmers, Landcare groups, industry, and government to deliver practical solutions while also raising public awareness of weed management and biosecurity.

Through both research and outreach, Dr Bajwa is creating future-ready strategies that support rural communities, inform policy, and ensure long-term environmental and agricultural sustainability.
